Quarters and Marbles and Dimes (oh my!)

I don't know if this happens to you, but I'm constantly finding random things in my house. Well, constantly is slightly exaggerating; consistently is probably more accurate. Anyway, random things, like quarters, marbles, and dimes in places they weren't before.

One day during the winter, I got dressed, complete with socks and shoes. Later on during the day, my sock got bunchy so I took off my shoe to adjust my sock, and a quarter fell out. My sock wasn't bunchy, a quarter was in my shoe. A quarter that wasn't there when I put on my shoe. I sheepishly looked for David Blaine and wondered how that happened.

The other day, I found a quarter in my bathroom behind the scale. I think the stupid quarter added 25 to the scale, but that's another story for another day.

I have found dimes just sitting on the floor of a room, and I recently found a marble in my bedroom. There are several jokes about losing and finding marbles you can make. I'll wait :)

Another unexplained thing that happens to me? Phantom smells. I will smell something that isn't there, and that happens with some frequency as well. One night years ago, I woke up to the smell of sulfur. It was so pungent that it tickled my nose. You know that smell; when you strike a match and it doesn't light for several tries. Only I didn't have matches in the house, and I was the only one home with my sleeping baby girl.

I'll be doing laundry (which is in our musty-smelling basement), and I'll smell some vibrant floral scent. It's not my laundry stuff, because I buy the most lightly scented stuff I can find. It's not any flower around me, either. I know, because I have sniffed every plant near our house.

Do these types of things happen to you? Do you have any theories? I'd love to hear them.

One theory I have is that the quarters are greetings from a cousin who passed on the 25th of the month. Once in a while when I come across a quarter, I'll say hello to my cousin, right out loud. My cousin hasn't answered back. Yet.

I realize I have vision issues, and energy issues, and cognitive issues, and other issues, too, but really, I'm sure all of this can't be blamed on my disease, can it? Actually, now that I think of it, before I was diagnosed, things would come up missing, and now I find things...hmm

I wonder if I can happen upon a winning lottery ticket...

  1. Phantosmia (the medical term for phantom smells.) Such an awesome word. This is not uncommon for migraineuers like us...
