A Girl, A Goblin, and an Evil Spell

Once upon a time there was a girl. A girl who had boundless energy and had her wits about her.

One night, a goblin cast a spell on her.

The goblin was very sly, you see. He cast the spell so it would take hold gradually, not all at once. It would be much more difficult to detect this way, and by the time the girl figured out something was wrong, the goblin would be long gone, casting spells all over the land.

One day when she woke up, she noticed she was very tired, despite having slept well the night before. After getting out of bed through sheer will, she noticed her legs felt heavy, weak, and sort of numb. It wasn't a numbness like they were still asleep; they were numb on the inside, and on the outside, it felt as though her legs were sprinkled with fairy dust.

She went about her usual life, adjusting to being bone-tired all the time, and having fairy dust legs the best she could. One day, while being weary and fairy-dusted, she felt someone giving her a bear hug around her ribs, or tightening a corset to Scarlett O'Hara size. It was very painful.

She carried on, and eventually the corset loosened, the fairy dust went missing, and all she was left with was the bone-tiredness.

Then she noticed her vision being wrong. She couldn't explain it; it was just wrong. And her arms felt wet some of the time, but when she went to brush off the water, they were dry. She figured it was because she was so tired that her mind was playing tricks on her.

The fairy dust legs came and went, along with the wrong vision, the wet arms that weren't really wet, and the corset no one could see. One day, something new happened. Her hand forgot it was attached to her wrist, and forgot it was holding a full cup of coffee. The cup tumbled from her hands, spilling coffee on the way down before finally crashing to the floor.

Now she had a whole host of visitors that came and went from time to time, but the visitor that never left was the bone-tiredness.

Finally, she met a great and powerful wizard who divined she was under an evil spell.

Ah, what news! Quick, let us undo this spell” exclaimed the girl.

I'm afraid there is no negator for this invocation” said the wizard.

No negator? You mean...” the girl asked, her voice trailing off.

I mean just that. You may experience other things as well, as your life goes on. Sometimes you will be ill, but blame the spell. You won't know when to see a physician or when to ignore it. You may lose the use of your limbs and muscles. Only time will tell exactly which spell the goblin gave you” answered the wizard.

After receiving this news, the girl wanted to crawl into a cave and cry. But, she realized, if she just quit, the goblin's spell would be made that much stronger by her own doing.

She vowed to fight the goblin's spell with all her might.

Some days, the spell is strong, and the girl cannot do much. Oh, but then there are those shining days when the girl feels invincible! She lives for those days though they now come less and less. But that's what makes her all the more grateful for them.

To Be Continued....
